Waht a dummy.

Epic.

Having played through about 26.375% of the Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess I have one word to say about this game: Epic.

I'm at the fourth dungeon and it's getting better and better. This game is snow balling. At first it started out kind of slow, but the more I get into it, the more I need to play it. End bosses are getting bigger with each dungeon, puzzles are getting more satisfying to complete, and the magic items are getting cooler. Sure, it originally started out as a Game Cube game, but it looks wonderful on my Wii, and the Wiimote works perfectly with the game-play. I am impressed.

For anyone who loved Ocarina of Time, you will most likely fall in love again when you play Twilight Princess. I highly recommend it.

World War Z.

Anyone who has interest in a world after the zombie apocalypse needs to pick up this book, or rather needs to pick up the audio-book of World War Z. I'm sure the book is a good read, but in my opinion you'd be missing out if you did not listen to the audio-book version, after all its subtitle is "An Oral History of the Zombie War".

The audio version features a star studded cast of readers such as Mark Hamill, Alan Alda, Carl Reiner, and many more. They are all joys to listen to, but Mark Hamill pwns the hardest. His character, Todd Waino, was a marine during the Zombie War and Hamill plays him beautifully. If there was only one reason to pick up this audio-book it would be to hear Hamill swearing like a soldier and describing the carnage of war. It is par excellence.

So check it out, you won't be disappointed. Link

"We Talk Games"

More people need to listen to this podcast. I stumbled on it while I was searching the podcast section of digg.com for something to listen to at work and what I found was perfect -- it hit the spot. It's called "We Talk Games" hosted by three guys, Wiggly, Joe Negron and Alex. They sound like their from New Jersey and they've got a shit load to say about arcade and console gaming. Oddly enough, Alex, the youngest host, sounds a lot like Poke, or at least he does to me. Their depths of knowledge is amazing, for example, They talk about all sorts of systems, even those off the beaten path: The NeoGeo, Colecovision, Commodore 64, and the Fairchild Channel F -- but also about the more popular consoles like your Nintendo's, your Sega's, and your Sony's. (pretty much anything on this timeline). The show runs about and an hour or two, so if you've got some time to kill, give it a listen, you might enjoy it.

Anyway, I fucking love podcasts. There are podcasts about all sorts of topics -- even ones about Byzantine Rulers (good podcast, btw). What I like best about them is that anyone can make'em and they don't have to worry about broadcast laws (fuck you FCC). With a little bit of work and learning one could make really good podcasts and maybe even become famous to a niche of people (sell t-shirts, $$profit$$). If any of you got together to make one I'd totally listen to it, and if it was good, I'd totally pimp it.

Daily Links -- this list will expand throughout the day!

  • Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales! A DS Final Fantasy game coming out in April 2007 that is all about the adventures of Chocobos. In this game if some gruesome monster doesn't kill you, I'm sure the cuteness will! (7:09 AM)
  • A New Sith, or Revenge of the Hope, a hilarious over-analysis of character rolls in Star Wars: A New Hope in light of the prequel trilogy. Though, while the author might have written some of this in jest, there are some clever insights and fresh looks at at classic characters. (3:17 PM)
  • Pharaoh's Helicopter? Take that, you stupid ufologists! This explanation of why one of these hieroglyphs looks like a helicopter and the other a UFO knocks the shit out of those who claim our ancient ancestors were visited by extraterrestrials. (8:55 PM)

The Best Bacon in the World...

...is found at Nueske's Applewood Smoked Meats in the depths of Wisconsin. My Dad picked me up a slab of smoked bacon last time he was up in Green Bay, and I took it back to Minneapolis while on my short visit home for Christmas. This bacon is simply amazing. As it sits pleasantly on the tongue it blows your mind and unravels your socks, pants, and all the assorted hats you might be wearing at the time. I would imagine that eating this bacon in any way other than pan frying it would be blaspheme. This bacon deserves to be eaten solo, it demands your full attention. Your mind must be in sharp focus when you eat this delicacy because it will teach you the very definition of brilliant. I cooked my last strip on 12/29/06 and I've been thinking about the taste I've been missing since. It looks like Nueske's takes online orders... I've never ordered online meat before... it seems like an oddly delicious plan.

Brett Favre's post-game interview - Will he be back?

"Madden called it - 'if he has tears in his eyes, he won't be back'. While he hasn't said for certain, it sure doesn't look like he'll be returning. Brett, you'll be missed, thanks for all the wonderful years."

Verizon doesn't know how to do basic math.

This story is amazing. The mental block in front of these Verizon reps is fascinating.

Here's a background post on George's situation. It looks like he started a blog in reaction to this problem and to raise awareness about it. Well, his story made it to the front page of Digg, 24 days ago, so it's getting the attention it deserves. In the end it looks like he got his money refunded but Verizon still doesn't seem to get the differences between $ and ¢.

I wish we used ¥.
